Dr. Carter is a postdoc in the Horsley lab studying the immune response of diabetic skin wounds to injected biomaterials. She is originally from Michigan and graduated from Mount Holyoke College with her Bachelors in Biochemistry and Mathematics. She completed her graduate education at the University of Glasgow where she graduated with her Masters of Science (MSc) in Immunology and made history as the first Black graduate of the PhD of Immunology program. Alongside her postdoctoral work, she is currently serving as the Chair of the Yale Black Postdoctoral Association (YBPA) where she, and the board, work towards creating inclusive spaces on campus for minoritized postdocs and increasing visibility of Black researchers.
